Thomas Bond to Receive 2024 Raymond Mauk Leadership Award 

AUSTIN, TX – July 3, 2024 – The Insurance Council of Texas (ICT) is honored to announce Thomas J. Bond as the recipient of the 2024 Raymond Mauk Leadership Award. The award will be presented at the 2024 ICT Property & Casualty Insurance Symposium on July 10, 2024, in Dallas, TX. 

Tom Bond has had a long and distinguished career in the Texas insurance industry working extensively in the legislative and regulatory arenas. Tom has been a long-time fixture in and advocate for the Texas property and casualty industry beginning with his tenure as one of the three insurance commissioners on the former State Board of Insurance and continues today with his legal representation of various insurance companiesMany companies and industry leaders have relied upon Tom’s advice and counsel on often complex questions on Insurance Codesrule interpretation, or legislative strategy and communications. 

"Tom's extensive expertise and leadership have significantly influenced the direction of property and casualty insurance industry in Texas and beyond," said Albert Betts, Executive Director of the Insurance Council of Texas. "He’s always been the consummate professional and we are privileged to recognize his outstanding contributions with the Raymond Mauk Leadership Award. His dedicationvision, and knowledge have left an indelible mark on the industry." 

Tom has received numerous accolades from national, state, and local legal groups for his legal skills and contributions, including being named “Lawyer of the Year in Austin multiple times and included among the “Best Lawyers” in Texas.  Among his notable achievements, Tom served as an insurance commissioner from 1982-1985after having worked in the Texas House on insurance and other issues.  

In his legal practice, he has worked on the rehabilitation and liquidation of troubled companies, managed acquisitions and mergers, and secured regulatory approvals across multiple states. Additionally, Tom acted as outside counsel to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners establishing the Interstate Insurance Product Regulation Commission. Currently, Tom is a shareholder in the law firm Greenberg Traurig in their Austin office. 

The Raymond Mauk Leadership Award, established in 1998, is a prestigious recognition presented annually to an individual who has made a significant impact on the Texas property and casualty insurance industry. Named in honor of former Texas Fire Commissioner Raymond Mauk, the award celebrates those who have played a pivotal role in advancing the industry. 

Past recipients of the Raymond Mauk Leadership Award have included a diverse group of industry leaders, ranging from company employees and regulators to agents, elected officials, and educators. The honorees share a common thread of significant contributions to the Texas property and casualty insurance landscape. 

The Insurance Council of Texas looks forward to celebrating Tom's exemplary achievements at the upcoming ICT Symposium. His legacy will continue to inspire and guide future leaders in the industry.
